HISTOGRAM: WHAT ARE THEY AND HOW TO READ THEM
What is a histogram?
Histograms are a bar graph of a frequency distribution in which the widths of the bars are proportional to the classes into which the variable has been divided and the heights of the bars are proportional to the class frequencies.
This histogram’s horizontal (X) axis shows the luminescence of the image from pure black on the left edge of the graph to pure white on the right edge. Growth on the vertical (Y) axis indicates the relative quantity of light for the given luminescence.
In summary, histogram shows you the brightness of your image
How to read a histogram?
If the majority of the graph is to the right then your photo is a high-key image. If the majority of the graph is to the left then you photo is a low-key image. If you see a U-shape then your photo has high contrast.
